Mitilinoi
The small town of Mitilinioi, the old capital of the island, is built amphitheatrically on top of three hills in the middle of the fertile valley of Hisios. The mane of the Mitilinioi originates from the first inhabitants of this are who came from Mitilini (Lesvos).
In Mitilinioi there is an important commercial activity and a vibrant nightlife.
Picturesque narrow streets, churches, and beautiful cafes, make up a uniquely beautiful picture.
In the following churches exist:
- The Church Panagia with a tall clock tower. It features old icons such as the Three Hierarchs (1674), St. John (1750) and Saint Charalampos (1750).
- The Church of Saint Antonios. It features a collection of old books dating back to 1689.
- Saint Dimitrios. It features an icon of the Life-giving Source of 1720.
- Saint Matrona
- Saint Nicholas
- The Church Of the Birth of Christ
- Genessis of Theotokos of the Cypriot Church Kikkou.
- The Annunciation of the Mother of Christ belonging the Archidices of Jerusalem.
Other sites of importance are:
- The public school and the Efthimiada School.
- The Paleontological Museum featuring bones of prehistoric animals such as the Samotherio, rhinoceros, the small horse of Samos etc.
- The old town hall, the statue commemorating all those fallen in battle and the fountain.
- Two old windmills in Mitilinioi and one on the way to Kokkari.
- The big stone bridge on the way to Samos, built the 1868

Outside the town limits we find:
- The church of Saint John on the source of Agiades and the church of Saint Panteleimonas along with the stone houses that surround them.
- The church of the Holly Trinity built the 1824. The bell tower was built in 1884. The main church, built in 1905, is of a Byzantine architectural style. The dome is supported by four marble columns taken by an ancient building of Glyfada.
- The small church of Panagia Kalathis, built in 1800, on the road between Mitilinioi and Chora.
- The small church of Saint John at the town�s entrance.
Mitilinioi was the birthplace of the poet George Themelis.
Local festivals take place the 15th of August and during the period of the carnival.
